Kim Si-woo reeled off five birdies in a six-hole stretch en route to the first-round lead at the Texas Open in San Antonio yesterday. He was at 15 under and Connors, trying to become the first Monday qualifier to win on the PGA Tour since 2010, was a stroke back after shooting a 6-under 66.

South Korea's Kim, 23, held a narrow one-shot lead overnight following his first-round 66 at TPC San Antonio.

Kevin Streelman (64) was outright sixth, while Graeme McDowell (66), An Byeong-hun (66), Matt Kuchar (69), Jason Kokrak (68), Danny Lee (70), Adam Schenk (70) and Scott Brown (71) rounded out the top 10.

Kim's ace at the 167-yard 16th bounced up toward the flagstick, landed next to the lip of the cup and dropped in.

"This week, I'd love to play well and get in contention and have a chance to win", Fowler said on Thursday.

"I've managed my game really well", Conners said. "I'm not looking to be validated or not validated, I'm just looking for progress".

Starting his round at the 10th, he was plodding along at even-par after seven holes, but birdied the next two with putts of five feet before slipping with a bogey at the first.

What Next? UK seeks elusive Brexit deal to end uncertainty
She also came under attack from a number of her own Conservative MPs for agreeing talks with the Labour leader. The bloc says it will only agree to delay Brexit if Britain breaks its impasse and comes up with a new plan.

Fowler had looked poised to grab a share of the lead after moving to nine under alongside Kim with five holes to play.

Matt Kuchar, already a two-time victor on the PGA Tour this season and coming off a runner-up finish last week, is at 3-under par following a round that included six birdies and three bogeys.

He remained on track with a birdie at the 14th after getting up and down from a greenside bunker and, after holing a clutch 12-footer for par at the 15th, he notched another birdie at the par-three 16th where he almost took out the flag with his tee shot. "That happens. I hit some good shots out there and made a few putts". Today was the best I've played under pressure in a little while.

Kim Si-woo carded a three-under-par 69 on Saturday, while Jordan Spieth lost ground after a forgettable front nine.

Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth, among only a handful of the big names using the Texas Open to tune up for the Masters, both shot 68 on an unusually benign day in a typically windy location.

Charley Hoffman lines up his putt on the 14th hole during the third round of the Texas Open golf tournament, Saturday, April 6, 2019, in San Antonio.
