USA to designate Iranian Revolutionary Guards as terror group, report says

Iranian officials have cautioned the United States against pushing ahead with a rumoured move to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a "terrorist" group, warning it could destabilise the region and draw a tit-for-tat response.
Heshmatollah Falahat Pishe, chairman of the Iran's parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told Tasnim news agency that the Iranian parliament has prepared a motion in this regard.
Meanwhile, a year ago Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats cautioned the administration designating the IRGC could pose dangers to U.S. forces, according to one source familiar with the matter.
The expected shift in Washington's policy was initially reported by the Wall Street Journal on Friday, which cited unnamed U.S. officials claiming it could be rolled out as soon as Monday.
The Wall Street Journal was the first publication to report the expected designation.

On 26 March, the United States introduced a new round of sanctions against Iran by adding 16 entities and nine individuals to the sanctions list over their alleged financial support of the IRGC and other units of the Iranian Armed Forces. They pledged to respond in kind against any action taken by the USA against Iran's armed forces.
