Khashoggis children paid by kingdom

  • Khashoggi children have received houses in Saudi Arabia and monthly payments as compensation for killing of father

The source familiar with the matter also said that though the Saudi government would argue that the payments are meant to make amends, they would still not condemn the royal family over the killing.

"Such support is part of our custom and culture", the newspaper quoted the official as saying. Dismissing the suggestion the family would be obligated to remain silent, he said the payments are "not attached to anything else".

Although the compensation to Khashoggi's children and the ongoing trials may close the slain journalist's case as far as the Saudi government is concerned, officials in Riyadh must contend with the high possibility of the Khashoggi case plaguing the kingdom's alliances with the USA and other Western states for many years to come.

Khashoggi's two sons and two daughters were all given houses in the coastal of Jeddah worth around $4 million (£3 million) each and are receiving monthly payments of $10,000 or more.

Salah's choice to remain in the country with his family has contributed to his "siblings' deference to the authorities and caution in their public statements over the past six months".

Saudi Arabia acknowledged the killing in October and said it fired five top officials and arrested 18 Saudis as part of the initial investigation into the murder.

Khashoggi's son Abdullah and daughter Noha did not respond to requests for comment.

Gunners go third in EPL
It remains to be seen whether more funds are made available if Arsenal manage to qualify for next season's Champions League. "I'll just keep doing what I am doing, try to enjoy myself and try to win the game for my team".

Now, six months on from his death, the Washington Post has put together a superb documentary feature on the assassination of their journalist.

"Saudi Arabia has an appalling human rights track record". Neither did William Taylor, a Washington lawyer who has represented the family.

Moreover, this affair has become a bubbling domestic issue in the United States with scores of lawmakers on both sides of the partisan divide harshly criticising Trump's response to Khashoggi's murder in which he said, "Maybe [MBS] did, maybe he didn't" order Khashoggi's killing notwithstanding the CIA's findings.

A trial is now underway after Saudi's public prosecutor charged 11 people over Khashoggi's murder at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last October. Khashoggi's children could have to absolve the killers to collect the money.

Turkish police never found Khashoggi's body. Eleven people are on trial in Saudi Arabia, though the exact details of the charges are not known. It is not known whether Khashoggi's remains have been recovered.

Khashoggi's children have disagreed on how to protect their father's legacy, according sources close to the family. The official refuted queries about the money being used to ensure the family's silence on the matter. "I want the Da Vinci", he said, referring to a painting by the Renaissance master that the Crown Prince paid $450 million for in 2017.

Saudi authorities were also "applying secrecy in the trial process" and ignoring global standards of justice, he said.
