  • Android Qs first beta is here for all Pixel devices Heres whats new

In keeping with its pattern of a March release for the last several years, Google has as of this afternoon launched the first developer preview of the next major version of Android - giving developers and early adopters a look at what's coming via a beta that's being made available for even more devices this time around. This release will inevitably include ample bugs and half-finished features, but it's the first glimpse of Google's vision for the future of Android. With support for Android Foldables form factor, the platform will include changes such as onResume and onPause to assist multi-resume and more. Just as Android 9 Pie came with different kinds of display notch designs, the Android Q has been created to better manage the contents on devices with foldable screens. Some of these are obvious, like compatibility features for foldable phones.

One of the easiest ways to check out the dark mode in Android Q is to simply use the Battery Saver. Android Q will also be able to handle AV1 a video codec that allows for higher quality streaming video that uses less bandwidth. Now with Android Q Google starts an app's process earlier and moves it to a security container, so it's ready to launch immediately. This can be especially helpful when managing connected devices.

As such, you the user will likely see more "reminders" of various subjects related to apps you already have downloaded, very soon. For instance, a browser app can show Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, and Airplane Mode as the options in the settings so that users can make changes without leaving the app. There's no need for users to leave an to make adjustments.

There's also new runtime permission which lets users control app access to Videos, Photos, Audio, and other files. When an app wants to access your location, you can choose to deny it, allow all the time, or allow only when the app's being used. Quite a few apps run in the background collecting your location data when you are not using the app. This will be a boon for real-time gaming and improved voice calls. But if you're desperate to give it a try, there's not much to stop you. It also adds specific flows for implicit and explicit authentication.

To get the Android Q beta, one has to register with Google's Android Beta program.

There will be a new privacy setting for location access, for instance, allowing users to restrict apps so that they only access information while in use (rather than carte blanche access to user location data).
