Daylight Saving Time Is Almost Here: Clocks ‘Spring Ahead’ Sunday

  • Daylight Saving Time adjustments could lead to health risks, studies say

This change in daylight saving time observance was requested by local governments and political leaders to help facilitate commerce with the US.

British Columbians are preparing themselves for losing an hour of sleep this weekend as clocks roll ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday for Daylight Savings Time.

But the law may change.

Daylight saving time begins on Sunday. Multiple initiatives in Congress and in statehouses would terminate our current system of time toggling - a system that started a century ago and has been controversial ever since. Let's turn back the clocks to look at the origins of daylight saving time and then spring forward to see if we still need it. Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) introduced matching legislation in the House.

When Is Daylight Saving Time 2019 and What Time Do We Change the Clocks?

While lawmakers in states like Florida, Oklahoma and Utah have tried and failed to end DST, the issue is still a hotly debated topic.

The anniversary passed with little fanfare, which is no surprise given how much people hate changing clocks twice per year. "Those impacted by headaches during the time change may want to consider taking melatonin to help them get a good night's sleep because regulating the sleep cycle can help keep headaches at bay", according to Cleveland Clinic.

Samsung is working on more foldable smartphones
One of the devices would fold away from the user like the Huawei Mate X instead of inward, as the Galaxy Fold does. That's one reason why Samsung kept the phone inside a glass case at MWC in Barcelona last month, the person said.

The time change means California will shift into the same hour as Phoenix and Tucson, which do not switch to daylight saving time along with the rest of the Mountain Time Zone. Mornings will now be darker.

Daylight Saving Time was first introduced as a way to conserve energy during World War I. It wasn't a set practice and, as we mentioned before, in times of peace it wasn't observed.

California voters overwhelmingly approved a similar proposition in November.

Mexico adopted DST nationwide in 1996, even in its tropical regions, because of its increasing economic ties to the United States. And other study saw that workers sustained both a higher number of injuries and more severe injuries on the Monday after the time change. No one's ever quite ready for it, though springing forward tends to go a bit more smoothly than falling backward.

Business interests have long supported the later daylight, he said. Last month, a handful of citizens came forward during public hearings to oppose the proposed axing of Pacific Standard Time. Other European countries and the United States soon followed in their footsteps.

According to BC Hydro, the majority of British Columbians are uncertain about the goal of Daylight Saving Time. "The extra time of sunshine brings a smile to everyone's faces, puts a spring in our step, and offers a great reason to get outside and enjoy the outdoors".
