After winning his 100th career title in Dubai at the weekend, Roger Federer has put his incredible longevity in tennis down to mental toughness, staying injury-free, a strong support network and a sprinkling of good fortune along the way.

In a battle of the generations, Federer avenged his loss to the 20-year-old Tsitsipas, a rising star from Greece, in the last 16 of the Australian Open in January.

Retired tennis player James Blake jokingly tweeted after his daughter compared his 10 singles title wins: "Thanks Roger, for making me look bad in front of my kids", while Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman tweeted his "huge congrats to my mate".

"Welcome to the "Triple Digit" tournament victory club", Connors said in a Twitter post to Federer, "I've been a bit lonely - glad to have the company!" I thought about it this week because I know they said they were interested to have me again next year, if it was okay to announce it during the week.

"Nick burst onto the scene beating Rafa at Wimbledon so I think there's probably been something there from day one".

"The courts are flawless, they suit my game and if I go well there it will set me up perfectly for Wimbledon". I like these type of numbers or records, to be quite honest. I meant what I said, it was in Spanish, some translations are taken out of context.

"If I can make the game more popular, if the fans can enjoy the sport more through me and you guys like to talk to me, that's great", Federer added. "And for me it's a dream come true right now".

Kelly shouts, cries during interview with CBS This Morning’s Gayle King
She continued to say the singer's been surrounded by yes-men for decades who've never told him the truth about his wrongdoings. But he said the allegations against him are "not true" during a television interview with Gayle King for CBS .

"So many magical things going on". I'd be happy with 100 [match] wins ...

Federer's 99th trophy had come last October at his home event in Basel.

Tsitsipas admitted he had few chances in the rout. "I had tough opponents all the way to Stefanos today". I've been idolizing him since I was six and watching him on TV.

"He just seemed like having control over everything he was doing, taking the ball super early, on the rise, giving me no time to prepare".

Federer, who remains a long way back from the all-time mark of 167 titles set in the women's game by Martina Navratilova, said that his two-decade longevity was key to the title century. The 20 time Grand Slam champion thrashed the Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in 69 minutes of action.

The second set was more even, but Tsitsipas made the first big mistake in dumping an easy shot into the net to lose serve for a 5-4 deficit.
