Initially, Facebook Is Misusing Users Personal Phone Numbers

Past year it came to light that Facebook was using the phone numbers people submitted to the company exclusively so they could protect their accounts with 2FA for targeted advertising.

Although Facebook users cannot hide their phone number completely from other users, its visibility can be hidden from public view by going into the "Settings", then clicking "Privacy", then "How People Find and Contact You".

Worse still is the fact that this option is set to "everyone" by default. However, it has now been found that Facebook's default settings allow nearly anyone to find a profile by searching the same authentication phone number.

Facebook's 2FA makes it harder for hackers to hack into your account by texting a security code that you need to enter along with your login credentials. You can also set up two-factor authentication with an email address (we'd recommend a burner), over a phone number.

Over the weekend, Jeremy Burge, Chief Emoji Officer at emoji-reference site Emojipedia, drew attention to the feature when he posted a screenshot of the setting.

"The most you can now do is limit who can look you up with the phone number you provided to 'Friends, ' but you can't hide it entirely", Fast Company reported.

"I can no longer keep private the phone number that I provided only for security to Facebook".

The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer reportedly owes $161,000 in back child support, according to state offices, CNN reported. After the interview, one of the young women who now lives with Kelly spoke with her family for the first time in years.

Facebook is once again dealing with a privacy headache surrounding its collection of people's phone numbers.

It turns out that Facebook lets advertisers upload information about people they want to target, including phone numbers and email addresses. But two words - "and more" - that fail to disclose what the company might actually be doing with your personal invitation is just like the problems tech companies including Facebook have run into with Terms of Service: they're technically covered, but don't actually provide clarity or control to users. The company uses that unique ID, since it's tied to you, and can use it to sell ads, much as it does with everything else it knows about you. Facebook didn't state whether it plans to change the controversial practice in the future.

A Facebook spokesperson said, 'We've been hearing questions about two-factor authentication and phone number settings on Facebook.

If, it is, just click on the Remove Phone Number.

Facebook prompts users to add their phone numbers for 2FA security.

Security expert Zeynep Tufekci wrote, 'Using security to further weaken privacy is a lousy move- especially since phone numbers can be hijacked to weaken security. "[Facebook] can't credibly require 2FA for high-risk accounts without segmenting that from search and ads", he said.
