As the news of his death spread Thursday, friends, former teammates, Major League Baseball executives and media members shared memories of Robinson on social media.

After managing the Cleveland Indians from 1975 to 1977, Robinson became the National League's first African-American manager in 1981 when he was hired by the San Francisco Giants.

Pappas went 30-29 over two-plus seasons with the Reds, Baldschun won one game in 51 appearances over two years with Cincinnati and Simpson hit five home runs as a part-time outfielder for the Reds during two mediocre seasons.

He came to Baltimore in 1966 in one of the biggest trades in baseball history and went on that year to win the Triple Crown and American League MVP, leading the AL in home runs (49), RBI (122) and batting average (.316) and pacing the Orioles to a four-game sweep of Sandy Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1966 World Series.

Robinson hit 586 home runs - he was fourth on the career list behind only Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays when he retired and now ranks 10th.

Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson dies at 83.

In 2005, Robinson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush, and six years later he would be appointed as Executive Vice President of Baseball Development by Bud Selig, then the commissioner of the MLB.

Trump Proposes New Nuclear Missile Treaty With Potential To Include India
Russian media also floated the possibility of sailing an underwater nuclear doomsday device to the US's coast. It said Russian Federation was violating the treaty's terms and had six months to become compliant.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred released the following statement in the wake of Robinson's passing. He oversaw the team's transition to Washington where they became the Nationals before ending his managerial career in 2006 at the age of 70.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, Robinson was raised in west Oakland where he attended McClymonds High School along with future NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell. He was the NL Most Valuable Player in 1961, the same year the Reds won the league pennant.

Being the sport's first black manager "was nothing compared to what Jackie did or what he went through, but it was important because I was the first and that meant the door's open", Robinson told OTL in 2016. "I thought, 'This SOB is trying to strike me out on three pitches ... on my day!" The Reds were a part of the Pioneer League from 1939-55 and played their home games at the now demolished John Affleck Park. This is the reason that I have wanted to stay in this game, because a lot of people helped me to get to where I am today and I've always tried to give back to this game. A Triple Crown victor, he was a member of two World Series champion Orioles squads.

Robinson moved into the Orioles' front office, serving as an assistant general manager through the 1995 season.

"I remember the first game I ever managed [for Baltimore] in 1968". The Salt Lake Bees won the Pioneer League title that season.

A no-nonsense guy, Robinson also had a sharp wit. Mazzone capably did his job for years with metal hooks and became good friends with Robinson. "After the vote, he said, 'Jay, you're fined for not voting.' Everybody laughed".

Robinson is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann, and two children, Frank Kevin and Nichelle.
