The attack took place at 11:15 p.m. (2115 GMT), it said.

The official news agency SANA reported that Syrian air defense batteries opened fire on "hostile Israel missiles" and intercepted "most" of them.

A military source affirmed that the Syrian Air Defenses on Friday night intercepted hostile missiles launched by Israeli regime's warplanes and downed a lot of them, SANA reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said "two areas hosting military positions of Iranian forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement have been targeted".

The state news agency also quoted a transport ministry source as saying that the airport was running normally.

The aggression caused only material damage to one of the ammunition warehouses at Damascus International Airport.

Lebanese residents living near the Syrian border reported hearing the sound of Israeli warplanes in Lebanese airspace shortly before explosions were heard across the Syrian capital.

He also took a swipe at Commons Speaker John Bercow, who he said was "willing to frustrate the government at every opportunity". May postponed the vote on the deal last month after admitting that her government would have faced a humiliating defeat.

"The results of the assault were limited to the targeting of a warehouse at Damascus International Airport", the source added.

Israel says Iran is seeking to establish a military presence in Syria that could threaten Israeli security by trying to transfer advanced weaponry to the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.

The Israeli warplanes flew from the Galilee Panhandle and fired several missiles on the vicinity of the capital Damascus, said an army statement.

The TV channel noted that Syrian air defense systems continue repelling an enemy attack at Damascus.

Russian Federation is a main ally of Damascus.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel had at the weekend carried out an air strike on Iranian weapons in Syria, a rare public confirmation of such attacks.
