Manny Machado Still Seeking More Than $325 Million, Yankees Out

  • REPORTS: Manny Machado Still Seeking More Than $325 Million, Yankees Out

On Friday, the Bronx Bombers added to an already impressive set of infielders by agreeing to terms with free agent second baseman D.J. LeMahieu.

That means Machado is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies or Chicago White Sox.

LeMahieu first came to the Rockies in a trade with the Cubs following the 2011 season that, at the time, was most notable for shipping one-time prospect Ian Stewart out of Denver. The Philadelphia Phillies have also been linked to him, but recent reports are suggesting that they are prioritizing Bryce Harper over Machado.

This does not definitively close the book on Machado going to NY, which has always been viewed as his ideal landing spot. The team has made a formal offer to Machado, but whether a contract has been offered to Harper is unknown.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the deal is worth around $24 million.

Machado is said to be seeking somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 million, and there has been no indication that the Yankees are willing to go that high.

The Washington Nationals' pursuit of Bryce Harper has been a windy path this offseason, but it may be coming to an end soon.

With this signing, the Yankees are likely out of the mix to sign free agent Manny Machado.

It would be quite a shock, from a fit perspective, to see the Yankees out on Machado, who makes so freaking much sense for them and who reportedly really wants to be a Yankee. Didi Gregorius will regain his role as the team's shortstop in 2020 and by choosing their current route, the club has signaled that they prefer Miguel Andujar as their long term option at third base.

2018 was a little bit of a down year for LeMahieu by his standards.
