  • South Africa teacher suspended over class 'split by race'

The chairman of the school's governing body, Jozeph du Plessis, said the teacher thought she was helping the students feel at ease on their first day of school, by seating them with children from their own racial group.

One white parent said: "If you are not happy here‚ take your child to another school‚ nobody is forcing you".

The image circulated on social media after the class teacher reportedly shared it on a WhatsApp group on the first day of school.

On Thursday, parents removed their children from the school amid heated protest over the controversial picture and some parents broke a part of the fence on the other side of the school to gain access and take their children away.

Black residents said they have been complaining about racism at the school for over a decade. "I am pissed off", said one parent to the Times.

The father said he was shocked when the picture went viral.

People pointed out the children were sitting separately according to their race. "We are not racists‚ we just want what is best for our children". I was told from the beginning that the school offers Afrikaans as a medium of instruction and didn't have problems with that.

Jets Considering Gregg Williams As Defensive Coordinator
But the team struggled the following year, going 6-10 with quarterback Ryan Tannehill sidelined all season following knee surgery. Rhule seemed to be the favorite on Wednesday, but that took a turn just before it was announced that Gase got the job.

"My child claims that he is being ill-treated by white children in the school".

Today they said in a statement: 'The Education and Sport Development department has with immediate effect suspended the teacher allegedly behind the racism incident at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke'.

"It is our firm view that schools, through its education ethos, have the role to instil values of dignity, respect, equality and tolerance for our learners".

"I will send a team to do an investigation into all schools.to deal with issues of racism in totality", Lehari said.

On Thursday, the North West Education and Sport Development member of the executive council (MEC), Sello Lehari together with other senior managers visited the school to investigate the incident. Schools are platforms for teaching and learning - not only a formal curriculum - but also fundamental value systems.

Spokesperson for the NFP Sabelo Sigudu said: 'These private schools tendencies of segregating learners based on the colour of skin is against the principles of the democratic South Africa we live in today'.
