Houston is honoring George H.W. Bush with a City Hall tribute and urging people who attend to dress in colorful socks, a nod to one of the former president's favorite fashion accessories.

George H.W. Bush's casket will lie in state from 5 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The Supreme Court is delaying arguments by a day for the national day of mourning.

The funeral at the Washington National Cathedral, set to be attended by a wide array of former presidents and politicians, including Donald Trump, will last 90 minutes.

The former president's remains will be flown to Washington, D.C. on Monday following a departure ceremony in Houston, Texas.

Millie was famously referenced during the 1992 presidential campaign, when Bush said, of Bill Clinton and Al Gore, "My dog Millie knows more about foreign affairs than these two bozos".

He said Bush was the first president he ever voted for and was "the first president to teach me and many of us that in a democracy sometimes you fall short", and how you handle that, "is just as important as how you win". His arrival at Ellington Field is expected at 4:30 p.m.

Trump has ordered the federal government to close on Wednesday and both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed in observance.

During this service Bush's grandson George P. Bush will speak as will Bush's best friend, James Baker, Bush's chief of staff and Secretary of State and Secretary of the Treasury.
