After becoming the first Croatian to win the Ballon d'Or, Modric quickly pledged his future to three-time reigning Champions League holders Madrid amid links with Serie A side Inter.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric has been named the victor of the 2018 Ballon d'Or award beating Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo in Paris on Monday night, December 3.

Juventus forward and 2017 victor Ronaldo came second, while Atletico Madrid and France striker Antoine Griezmann came third.

Another Frenchman, Modric's Madrid teammate Raphael Varane, was seventh, just behind Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.

"As a kid we have dreams".

"2018 is a dream year for me", the 33-year-old Modric said. Marca use Modric's quote of: 'My dream since childhood was to be a player in a great team, the Ballon d'Or is more than a dream'.

Modric led Croatia to their first ever World Cup final and was instrumental in Real Madrid's third consecutive Champions League title run.

Croatia lost 4-2 to France in Moscow in the final in July.

Police seek couple who lost engagement ring in Times Square
Their proposal went wrong when he dropped the ring down a utility grate - but the NYPD found it and is trying to track them down. The NYPD commissioner James O'Neill has also gotten involved, urging users on the social media site to "do your thing".

He also won the best Federation Internationale de Football Association men's player earlier this year, beating competition from Ronaldo and Egypt's Mo Salah.

Modric capped a brilliant 2018 by edging five-time victor and former team-mate Ronaldo, who finished second, while Messi was fifth in the voting.

Lyon's Ada Hegerberg was crowned the first ever female Ballon d'Or victor but the moment became shrouded in controversy when French DJ Martin
Solveig - who was helping host the gala alongside David Ginola - asked the Norwegian to "twerk".

Hegerberg is a three-time Women's Champions League victor with French side Lyon and scored a tournament-record 15 times last season.

"I want to say thanks to France Football".

"The change of position helped me a lot in my career".

The moment of her win, however, was tarnished when French DJ Martin Solveig, who co-hosted the awards with retired football player David Ginola, asked her to "twerk" after receiving the prize.

The outspoken 23-year-old Hegerberg said she won't play for Norway at the Women's World Cup in France next June. I didn't really think about it at the time to be honest.
