Trump has not always uttered kind words about the Bush family. The war lasted just 100 hours.

His time as president was marked by the end of the Cold War and the first Gulf war against Saddam Hussein. He enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday.

Among those who spent time with Bush in this province were Newfoundland businessmen Harry Steele and Craig Dobbin.

After the war he started an oil business in Texas before entering politics aged 40. He would go on to serve as ambassador to the United Nations and China, head of the Central Intelligence Agency and chairman of the Republican National Committee before being elected to two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice-president.
