AWS Launches ARM Instances Based on Custom "Graviton" Processors

  • Amazon Web Services announces its own custom-designed ARM server processor

It also offers additional ROS packages that connect to AWS services, making it easier to build robots, add intelligent functions, simulate and test robotics applications, and manage and update fleets of robots.

Once customers receive satellite data at a Ground Station, they can immediately process it in an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), store it in Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), apply AWS analytics and Machine Learning (ML) services to gain insights, and use Amazon's network to move the data to other regions and processing facilities. AWS said these companies and many more are using AWS to drive cost savings, accelerate innovation, and speed up time-to-market.

To change that dynamic, Amazon is building a dozen space-trained ground stations all over the world next to its AWS regions-often on the same grounds.

Andy Jassy launches the Ground Station as a Service to crunch satellite data in AWS regional centres.

Satellite operators need to get data down from the satellite, process it and then make it available for developers to use in applications. He was in Las Vegas to announce the service, which he called a "total game changer for how people can interact with satellites". "Our commitment to our highly regulated customers and helping them leverage the latest AWS Cloud services is a driving force behind this achievement", said Suresh Venkatachari, Chief Executive Officer of 8K Miles. By combining Lockheed Martin's distributed network of satellite receivers with direct AWS Ground Station access, the two companies are delivering a next-generation space solution that will help address the growing need for satellite ground communications and data management while reducing capacity constraints and enabling satellite customers to scale their satellite data downlinks in real-time to meet unanticipated demand across a broad variety of situations. A ground station is the vital link for transmitting data to-and-from satellites in orbit.

Amazon Workers In Germany & Spain Go On Strike For Black Friday
Facebook and Twitter is replete with images with Amazon workers holding placards that read " Jeff Bezos , you're the richest man". The company has invested 27 billion euros and created more than 75,000 permanent jobs in Europe since 2010, it said in an email.

"With this new system, the image will be crystal clear and this will be crucial for application in autonomous vehicles", Scott said.

Preview partners include BlackSky, HawkEye, Open Cosmos, Lockheed Martin and Digital Globe, from which cofounder and CTO Dr Walter Scott also spoke on stage. This covers AWS' GovCloud and Secret Regions across almost every data classification. Lockheed Martin's satellite receiver is the size of a shoebox, and lets customers have them in multiple locations, to download satellite data whenever required. Lockheed Martin Verge will be available in private beta today for customers with satellites that support S-band frequencies and can downlink in the Denver, Colorado area.

Lockheed Martin said that with almost 16,000 new satellites expected to be launched in the next decade, the solution could exponentially decrease costs attached to the data processed from them.

One of the use cases highlighted for the new satellite service was for when natural disasters strike.
