Hyde-Smith said, referring to a supporter. "I have stood up for you and you know I will continue to stand up for the conservative values of MS".

More than 43,000 absentee ballots have been requested for the runoff, and that number could increase as circuit clerks continue compiling information, the MS secretary of state's office said Saturday.

Former U.S. Rep. Ronnie Shows, who worked at Lawrence County Academy and coached Hyde-Smith in basketball, told the Free-Press that there was "no doubt" that the schools were set up for parents who didn't want their kids to go to school with Black kids.

Hyde-Smith has drawn fire for attending a white private school that was founded after court-ordered school desegregation of public schools.

The historic contest features Hyde-Smith, who would be the first woman elected to Congress from MS, against Espy, who's vying to become the state's first black senator since Reconstruction.

In a clip referring to cattle rancher Colin Hutchinson who she was standing next to in Tupelo, Mississippi, Hyde-Smith said "if he invited me to a public hanging, I would be on the front row". The runoff election for the seat is coming on Tuesday. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy, a former US secretary of agriculture seeking to become Mississippi's first black senator since Reconstruction.

It's not the first controversy that Hyde-Smith has caused.

Sexton, Schmidt and Ireland land World Rugby awards
Schmidt played the role of mentor when he went to France and convince Sexton to end a largely unhappy two years at Racing 92. If a No.10 wins an award like this it is down to the team around him and the coaching he gets making his job easier.

But race has become a dominant issue as Hyde-Smith faces Espy, a former congressman and US agriculture secretary.

Hyde-Smith campaign spokeswoman Melissa Scallan, when asked to comment on the report, attacked the "liberal media", saying in a statement, "They have stooped to a new low, attacking her entire family and trying to destroy her personally instead of focusing on the clear differences on the issues between Cindy Hyde-Smith and her far-left opponent". The state last elected a Democrat to the Senate in 1982. She faces a runoff against Democrat Mike Espy, who is Black, on November 27. The victor will finish the final two years of a term started by GOP Sen.

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) arrives for a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee's Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee with U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill May 10, 2018 in Washington, DC.

MS has a history of racially motivated lynchings and violence against people who sought voting rights for black citizens. She also posed in a photo wearing a Confederate hat and holding a rifle that made the rounds on Facebook, and it was just uncovered that she sponsored a resolution praising Confederate soldiers' "defending their homeland."

Hyde-Smith apologized and said she meant no ill will with the hanging comment.

"I have met with the president, and I proudly support him in negotiating these trades", she said. Rebel, and a photo of the cheerleading squad shows a girl dressed up in a Confederate costume and waving the stars and bars flag.

Former Vice President Joe Biden endorsed Espy, and three Democrats who could run for president in 2020 - Sens.
