The Dutch intelligence services held a press conference on Thursday revealing details of what they claim was a Russian operation to infiltrate the OPCW, as it investigated the attempt to poison a former Russian spy in the United Kingdom this year.

Russia's foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the allegations had been mixed together "indiscriminately".

The indictment said that the Russian agents targeted global anti-doping monitors in the wake of revelations that Russia had engaged in a state-backed doping effort to help its athletes during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

The GRU, also known as the Main Intelligence Directorate, is the intelligence arm of the Russian military.

Speaking about Russia's hacking attempts into the MH17 crash investigation, she said: "We have been aware of the interest of Russian intelligence services in this investigation and have taken appropriate measures".

Mr Skripal, his daughter Yulia and a policeman fell seriously ill and a British woman later died from poison found in a discarded perfume bottle. Russian Federation has denied any involvement in the plane's destruction, which led to the deaths of many Dutch citizens.

The cyber-operation in Malaysia targeted the attorney general's office and Malaysian police as well as the investigation into MH17's shooting down, Ambassador Wilson said.

Attackers also compromised equipment used in closed access Wi-Fi networks of a hotel hosting an anti-doping conference in Lausunna, Switzerland in Septmeber 2016. Britain says the nerve agent was Novichok, produced in the Soviet Union, a finding later confirmed by the chemical weapons watchdog.

The Russian embassy in Ottawa said in a statement Thursday that the allegations are "fake news" and part of an "anti-Russia witch hunt" by the U.S., Britain and their "willing allies, including Canada".

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, at a news conference in the Belgian capital, said Russian Federation must pay a price, and a number of response options were available.

When asked once what was the naughtiest thing she had ever done, May admitted to running through fields of wheat as a child. Michael Edwards from Hastings, a Tory member for 40 years, said Johnson gave an "inspiring speech".

Dutch authorities disclosed on Thursday how - with the help of United Kingdom intelligence - they thwarted an attempted cyber attack on the headquarters of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. He told US President Donald Trump during a July summit in Helsinki that talk of Russian Federation meddling in the 2016 election was "nonsense".

"This is not the actions of a great power".

"It is evident from the allegations in today's indictment that the defendants believed that they could use their perceived anonymity to act with impunity", John Demers, the USA assistant attorney general for national security, said at a press conference announcing the charges.

Welling said that the GRU agents wanted to "intentionally damage world organizations and athletes committed to fairness" by flooding public and social media outlets with the medical records of worldwide athletes and portraying those athletes who actually complied with global anti-doping regulations as cheaters and dopers.

They said Australia wasn't significantly affected, but the cyber attacks caused economic damage and disrupted civilian infrastructure in other places.

Nato Secretary general Jens Stoltenberg also added that the alliance stood "in solidarity" with the decision by the Dutch and British governments to "call out" Russian Federation for its actions.

"Russia must stop its reckless pattern of behaviour, including the use of force against its neighbours, attempted interference in election processes, and widespread disinformation campaigns".

"NATO will continue to strengthen its defence and deterrence to deal with hybrid threats, including in the cyber domain", he added as North Atlantic Treaty Organisation defence ministers met to discuss new offensive cyber capabilities.
