The three were briefed together on the investigation in the secure room senators were using to view the report.

This comes on the heels of a six-day FBI background investigation of the sexual assault allegations. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. Meanwhile, multiple Republicans have said that the document contains no evidence against Kavanaugh.

"Beyond this shameful spectacle, which is an embarrassment to the Senate, what will endure are the actual facts before us", he said, adding that he looks forward to voting for the "well-qualified" Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court.

But Democrats said the five-day inquiry was "incomplete" because it was limited by the White House. And when Wray was serving in the deputy attorney general's office under President George W. Bush, Kavanaugh was a deputy White House counsel.

White House spokesperson Raj Shah rebuffed Democrats' complaints, saying, "What critics want is a never-ending fishing expedition into high school drinking".

"I swear today, under oath, before the Senate and the nation, before my family and God, I am innocent of this charge", Kavanaugh told the Judiciary Committee.

Ford's attorneys, Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, said Wednesday they haven't heard back from the Federal Bureau of Investigation about scheduling an interview about Ford's claim that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her decades ago.

On Wednesday, the California senator said in a statement that a lack of FBI interviews with Kavanaugh and Ford "raises serious concerns that this is not a credible investigation".

Moreover, the inquiry focused mainly on the account of Ford, the research psychologist who alleges that a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were high school students in the Washington suburbs. "I would like to have the future mending things so we can do things in a collegial way like the United States Senate ought to do. and you folks can have something to do with this".

Republicans hold 51 seats in the Senate and changed Senate rules past year to end filibusters for Supreme Court nominees.

The controversy over Kavanaugh's nomination is coming to a head now as the Senate prepares to vote on his nomination, likely in the next two days.

Senate Republicans plan a procedural "cloture" vote at 10:30 on Friday (14:30 GMT), which would end the debate on the nomination, followed by a final vote on Saturday at around 17:30 (21:30 GMT).

Almost 8 in 10 Republicans said they approve of how Trump has handled the allegations in the new poll, which was conducted before Trump mocked Ford at Tuesday night's rally.

Demonstrators wait in-line to enter Hart Senate Office Building for a protest against the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. None of their staff will be permitted to see them, and the documents will not be made public.

No Republicans have said they will vote against Kavanaugh, although four have not committed to supporting him. "That is because I forcefully and passionately denied the allegation against me", Kavanaugh wrote.

Three women, including Christine Blasey Ford, have accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault or exposing himself in the early 1980s.

Ford, who testified last week at a dramatic Judiciary Committee hearing, accused Kavanaugh of pinning her down, trying to remove his clothing and covering her mouth when she screamed.

"An FBI supplemental background investigation that did not include an interview of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford - nor the witnesses who corroborate her testimony - can not be called an investigation", her legal team said in a statement.
