  • Google's Project Stream lets you play Assassin's Creed Odyssey in Chrome

Google and Ubisoft have announced that Google's Project Stream will be testing its gaming streaming capabilities via its Chrome browser using the upcoming Assassin's Creed Odyssey starting on October 5.

Select people have an opportunity to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey for free this week through Google's new "Project Stream" service.

If we look throughout, we will find that Google is the only company which is focussing more on game streaming. At the same time, Project Stream also need to keep track of users' interaction with the game and make sure that it is in sync with what being shown on the screen.

Ever since the release of Assassin's Creed Unity in 2014, the subsequent titles in the franchise have launched as exclusively single-player games.

The ultimate challenge for streaming games is minimal, consistent latency.

There are additional details on the streaming project coming soon, but it's intriguing to see Google taking the initiative to bring this type of test to the masses so early.

Conenamed Yeti and now called Project Stream, it turns any laptop or desktop with a high speed connection into a machine capable of runnign the latest hit games. In order to access Project Stream you need to be residing in the USA and have a 25Mbps connection along with a computer running Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, or Linux.

What do you think of Google's venture into the gaming world?

Reports have been swirling around Google's development of a subscription-based game streaming service for several months.

In 2014, the company reportedly planned to buy Twitch, a live streaming video platform popular with gamers before Amazon beat them to it.

In an interview with IGN, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot discussed the future of streaming in games, saying "Technology is actually going in that direction".

Console quality video game play streamed online as a service, hosted on servers in the internet cloud, faces challenges including moving data quickly enough to avoid lags in action or imagery.
