Nike recently announced a multiyear agreement with Kaepernick including his own apparel line, video ads and billboards featuring his image, and a contribution to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback's Know Your Rights charity.

The endorsement deal between Nike and Kaepernick prompted a flood of debate. According to the report, following a brief decline, the shoe giant's online sales grew 31 per cent which was substantially better than 2017's 17 per cent increase during that same time period.

"There was speculation that the /Kaepernick campaign would lead to a drop in sales, but our data over the last week does not support that theory", Hetal Pandya, co-founder of Edison Trends, MarketWatch. Nike has suffered much of the brunt for this decision, as their market capitalization has plummeted by $4 Billion and their stocks have fell by 3 percent.

Falwell also said that if it's a publicity stunt, that's different and he understands how marketing works, but he wants Nike to convince him that it is not proactively attacking law enforcement officers and the military.

Last night during the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons football game, which kicked off the start of the NFL season, Nike's first ad, featuring Kaepernick aired.

Nike's Kaepernick ad debuted Monday afternoon, a U.S. holiday, drawing immediate praise and ire from celebrities and customers alike.

Trump's immediate response to the ad was to tweet, "What was Nike thinking?".

"As far as Kaepernick and all that's concerned, we all have the freedom of speech and he's using it in a way that's non-violent which is something you just have to respect as an American", he said.

Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson knelt near the team bench during the National Anthem ahead of the team's season opener on Sunday.

"When corporate does things that are outside of golf and outside of my realm, that's what they do", Woods said.

While speaking with USA Today, Falwell elaborated on when Kaepernick wore socks depicting police officers as pigs in 2016. "I honor our national anthem and most of the people in this country feel the same way".
