"I'm not a regular smoker of weed", the Tesla chief executive told Rogan and his podcast listeners.

Several media outlets incorrectly reported that the U.S. Air Force was reviewing Musk's security clearance after the video of him smoking published online, since his company SpaceX provides services to the government, Reuters reported.

Musk offered a frank and vulnerable look into his life for The New York Times in August, describing his long hours, isolation and how he took Ambien for sleep. The Times also quoted sources claiming that some members of the Tesla board were anxious about Musk's use of the sleeping drug Ambien.

Shares of Tesla fell as much as 10% amid the hazy cloud of headlines, marking yet another instance of the controversial Musk giving ammunition to his detractors in the interest of cultivating an offbeat public persona.

Mr Musk has said the company is producing more than 5,000 Model 3 electric cars per week, and that cash generated from the sales will bring sustained quarterly profits.

Shares of Tesla stock slid Friday following Musk's appearance on the podcast and amid the departure of the company's chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, who left after just a month on the job.

"Since I joined Tesla on August 6, the level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations", Morton said on Friday in a statement included in a filling with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Musk touched on the difficulties of having the kind of brain that has enabled him to build and run multiple high-tech companies at the same time.

According to Wang, on anti-terrorism issues, India will continue to ask the USA to create pressure on Pakistan. She invited USA companies to become active partners in India's efforts to promote its local defense industry.

Musk has never been shy about public exposure.

When Unsworth called Musk's proposed mini-submarine a PR stunt, Musk responded by calling Unsworth a pedophile on Twitter. The dispute quickly escalated, with Musk referring to the diver as "pedo guy", slang for a pedophile.

In the same breath, Musk said that such a concept "isn't necessary right now" - that he's focused on electric cars, solar power, and energy storage (batteries).

"For a while, there will be a lot of fuss and noise in the media", Musk wrote.

Now, as the smoke clears, Musk's electric auto company finds itself facing dire straits.

Musk is definitely not flying high after his infamous toke set his company stocks ablaze... The San Francisco office of the SEC has sent subpoenas to Tesla regarding its privatization plans to determine whether Musk intentionally misled investors. Institutional investors are historically very conservative and the interview gave fuel to the fire in regards to some pundits saying Musk is increasingly "tired" and overwhelmed at the workload he's taken upon himself. At the same time, its high-yield bonds tumbled to record lows. Sarah O'Brien, vice president for communications, and Gabrielle Toledano, the head of human resources, have departed in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, Tigress Financial Partners analyst Ivan Feinseth told Reuters that Musk "should not tweet about things outside of vehicle production and the auto industry". Now that Tesla is remaining a public company, it will be up to its board to determine if and how his role might change.
