  • Hurricane Florence has the potential to make landfall on the East Coast but it is still too early to tell

The latest forecast from the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, "Florence is moving toward the west near 9 miles per hour (14 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple days".

Hurricane Florence has weakened to a tropical storm but will likely strengthen again into a major hurricane and could threaten the US East Coast by next week.

"The models are ... really starting to favor a landfall around the Carolinas", though states to the north should watch as well, CNN meteorologist Allison Chinchar said Saturday morning.

South Carolina's Emergency Management Division said although it was too early to tell if the storm would have any impact on the state, it's advising coastal residents to start making contingency plans.

Florence became the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season this past Wednesday , reaching Category 4 status with maximum sustained winds peaking at 130 miles per hour.

In scenario two, if the high pressure over the central Atlantic strengthens, then Florence may complete its 3,500-mile journey over the Atlantic, landing right on the US East Coast. It is forecast to move due west and is scheduled to reach the Caribbean Islands, possibly including those ravaged a year ago, on Wednesday or Thursday as well.

The Washington Post released an audio recording and transcript of a call the president made to Woodward in early August. The book includes some damning quotes from those closest to the president, including Chief of Staff John Kelly .

Florence has weakened, but forecasters have been anticipating that favorable atmospheric conditions will see it regain strength as a major hurricane by the time it reaches the East Coast. "The cone itself isn't touching the east coast yet". A gradual turn toward the west-northwest with an increase in forward speed is expected early next week.

The Emergency Measures Organisation has announced that it is prepared to meet on Monday as Tropical Storm Florence gets nearer.

Tropical Storm Florence's weakening appears to have stopped and is expected to restrengthen into a hurricane by Saturday night or Sunday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The forecast track has the storm strengthening to a hurricane next week as is tracks west.

Tropical Depression 9 is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is moving westward.

Thought chances are set at 50 percent, the concerns are "frequent lightning strikes, brief periods of heavy rain, and gusty winds".

“All the while, sea surface temperatures will be gradually increasing to between 28 to 29C (82.4 to 84.2F), and perhaps more importantly, oceanic heat content values will double in three to four days, ” the NHC site added.
