Following the meeting at the White House, the pair said the talks would seek to "resolve" USA tariffs on steel and aluminum and Europe's retaliatory duties - marking a step back from Trump's signature import protections for American metals producers.

Juncker, after Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, said in March that "this is basically a stupid process, the fact that we have to do this".
Trump added: "This was a very big day for free and fair trade, a very big day indeed".
Foreign exchange markets were more cautious about seeing the EU-U.S. announcement as a substantial breakthrough, with the euro EUR= down against the dollar and other currencies such as the Japanese yen EURJPY= and the Swiss franc EURCHF=. "I had one intention today, to make a deal, and we made a deal".
After the meeting, the US President tweeted: "Great to be back on track with the European Union". They also agreed to resolve the dispute over steel and aluminum tariffs.
