  • Israeli warplanes have conducted many attacks on military positions in Syria's Hama province

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday said he would consider granting the US military a waiver to coordinate with Russian forces in Syria, adding that he'd "have to think long and hard" about such a move.

Iran is Israel's arch-enemy and Netanyahu has pledged to keep it from entrenching itself militarily in Syria.

America's chief military commander in the Middle East says he has been given no new guidance on operating with the Russian military following President Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In June, Israel fired a missile at a drone that approached its airspace near the Syrian frontier.

Note that these talks took place four days after Putin's meeting with U.S. President Donald trump in Moscow, in which both leaders spoke of the importance of Israel's security.

Israel has been on high alert as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regains ground from southern rebels, bringing his forces close to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

In a sign of heightened tensions, Israel launched two David's Sling interceptor missiles at rockets the Israeli military later said fell inside Syrian territory - part of the internal fighting there.

It was Israel's first operational use of the mid-range David's Sling, which is jointly manufactured by US firm Raytheon Co (RTN.N).

Netanyahu noted that Israel would not tolerate a military establishment of Iran and its proxies in any area of Syria for many times. The incident triggered sirens in northern Israel and on the Golan.

In May, Israel said it attacked almost all of Iran's military infrastructure after Iranian forces fired rockets at Israeli-held territory for the first time in the most extensive military exchange ever between the two adversaries.

The military did not immediately elaborate on whether the targets were shot down.

More than 6.9 million people have left Syria since 2011 when the the Syrian civil war broke out, most of whom are living in 45 countries, the official said. "I have not asked for that at this point, and we'll see what direction comes down".
