Novak Djokovic wins 4th Wimbledon title

  • Novak Djokovic is back at his best and the Wimbledon champion for a fourth time grabbing a lead right away against a weary Kevin Anderson in the final and winning 6-2 6-2 7-6 on Sunday

Each player held his next serve before Anderson broke Isner again to go up 5-4 and then proceeded to serve out the set to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

Novak Djokovic clawed his way to a two sets to one lead over great rival Rafael Nadal under the Centre Court roof before their scintillating Wimbledon semifinal was paused with the contest balanced on a knife-edge on Friday.

Novak Djokovic (12), Serbia, leads Rafael Nadal (2), Spain, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9), completion of suspended match.

After two-and-a-half hours of play, Anderson managed to clinch the first break of serve in the match, ending Isner's epic run of 110 straight service games won at Wimbledon.

The first semifinal at Centre Court, between No. 8 seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa and No. 9 John Isner of the US, features two powerful servers with similar games who have a lot less star power and considerably fewer Grand Slam trophies, to say the least: The Nadal-Djokovic combined count is 29, including five at Wimbledon.

"I was for the roof because we started to play, and I wanted to play in the same conditions".

Djokovic has already hit 42 winners to Nadal's 39 but has converted just two of 10 break points. Anderson moved to his first Wimbledon final as Isner produced his 59th unforced error.

Anderson will now attempt to overturn a losing record against his final opponent.

John Isner was one win away from his first career Grand Slam title. Novak is in the range as well, hitting a return victor for a deuce and he creates a break point, only to be denied by Nadal's service victor, as often when he was in danger in this match. "I can feel the crowd (get) pretty antsy for us to get off the court".

‘Looking to forge post-Brexit deal with U.K.’
The Sun reports that Mr Trump was "forced to climb down" on comments made against Theresa May's Brexit deal. To be endorsing Boris at a time when the Prime Minister is facing some challenges, it ain't easy.

The second set also came down to a tiebreaker, but this time it was the American who came out on top when he threw down an ace on the final point.

Not to be outdone, Anderson had 49 aces of his own in the match.

"It's one of the longest matches I played over the two days, I'm overwhelmed".

Anderson had won 13-11 in a decider to knock out defending champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals, so he knew his way around a lengthy match as well, but his legs must be feeling the strain now. It's been a roller-coaster for him in the last couple of rounds but he had a day off and that means a lot. It's fair to say that it was a great match and he beat me. "I really do. I think with the performances I've had, I deserve to be in the semifinals", he continued.

It was the first time in the Open era that both men's semifinals went past 6-all in the deciding set of a Grand Slam event. I gave it my best, and that's it.

Serbia's Djokovic had beaten the current world No. 1 in the 2011 final, the last time Nadal advanced beyond the fourth round until this year.

"I apologise if I'm not more excited right now, it's just coming through something like that leaves so many mixed emotions". The U.S. Open does use a tiebreaker after 6-6.

Anderson was two sets to love up against Djokovic in the Wimbledon round of 16 back in 2015, but he won't on to lose that match.
