Arsenal asked Torreira to fly straight from Russian Federation to England and, having touched down in London, he is expected to undergo a medical at London Colney on Monday.

The midfielder, who made five appearances at the World Cup, confirmed he was set for a medical at Arsenal, denying him a chance to return to Montevideo with the rest of the Uruguay squad. He has been likened to N'Golo Kante and should fit in with Emery's hard-pressing style of play.

And his current team, Sampdoria, agreed a £25million fee with Arsenal for a transfer during the competition in Russian Federation.

His arrival will finish off Arsenal's major recruitment this summer, although they are expected to bring in another younger player before the transfer window closes on 9 August.

It's never nice to see a team getting knocked out of the World Cup but there were probably more than a few Arsenal fans hoping to see France beat Uruguay last Friday.

LeBron James To Leave Cleveland For The Los Angeles Lakers
James already owns two mansions in Brentwood, Los Angeles and has investments in numerous businesses in the city. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported earlier this morning that LBJ spoke with general manager Koby Altman at 12:01 am.

The performances of defender Nacho Monreal were one of the few positives for Arsenal last season, but the Spanish full-back has become a target for La Liga side Real Sociedad and could quit the Gunners according to the Daily Express.

The enigmatic Sampdoria star is not the only midfielder on Arsenal's wishlist either, with reports indicating that the Gunners have opened talks with Sevilla over a deal to sign Steven N'Zonzi.

The Gunners have shown interested in the midfielder who helped Uruaguay reach the World Cup quarter -finals.

Emery's first game in charge of Arsenal will be the pre-season game against Atletico Madrid on July 26.
