LeBron James To Leave Cleveland For The Los Angeles Lakers

  • LeBron James could head to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer

All of the buzz from the previous year that LeBron James would leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers became a reality Sunday night, July 1.

Cleveland was overmatched by the Warriors, but James had the Cavs in position to steal Game 1 before a late-game missed free throw by George Hill and a mental meltdown by Cavs forward J.R. Smith (who dribbled out the final seconds of regulation thinking his team was leading) led to an overtime loss.

"Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible four seasons", said James on his Instagram account. The Lakers have already secured the top offseason grade among National Basketball Association teams by acquiring the biggest prize; that grade can only improve over the next few weeks. The Sixers are among the teams hoping to woo him.

However, it is unclear if the Lakers have enough assets to entice the Spurs. The Philadelphia 76ers, a young team very much on the rise and has the money to spend, is out and about to try and get some big names this summer.

Los Angeles will also open up for James more opportunities for his business ventures and social activism.

Having cap space doesn't always result in star players coming as the Lakers know, but this time it worked, as the Lakers were able to sign LeBron James. Everyone was puzzled as to why the Nets would have made such a ridiculous move, but Pelinka and Johnson somehow convinced them to do so. James' shooting percentage from three-point range was the third-best single-season mark of his career. Interim president of basketball operations and current 76ers coach Brett Brown will "possibly" lead it on the Sixers' side, Wojnarowski reports.

James already owns two mansions in Brentwood, Los Angeles and has investments in numerous businesses in the city.

Merkel secures asylum seeker return deals with 14 European Union countries
Merkel has rejected that approach, saying Germany needs to address migration more broadly to preserve European Union unity. And he insisted the CSU isn't questioning the government's stability and doesn't want to break up the CDU-CSU partnership.

And now LeBron James is joining them. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported earlier this morning that LBJ spoke with general manager Koby Altman at 12:01 am.

James wasn't expected to drag his choice out over several days.

James, fresh off a 3-1 exit in the NBA Finals vs. the Golden State Warriors, has agreed to a four-year, $154 million deal, according to his agent. The 33-year-old had previously said he wanted to finish his career in OH, and although he's leaving again, Cavs fans are more forgiving after he ended the city's 52-year sport title drought in 2016.

James may have the ability to take over games from a scoring standpoint, but he has proven time and again ready and willing to involve teammates into the flow of the action, even giving them chances at hitting game-winning jumpers. The fourth season on the contract reportedly includes a player option.

James also got a welcome from Lonzo Ball.

The Cavs, on the other hand, have been mostly operating in the dark.

By the end of the regular season, James extended that streak to 873 straight games.
