Calling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada "very dishonest and weak", Trump said the US was withdrawing its endorsement of the G-7's communique, in part over what he called Trudeau's "false statements" about USA tariffs at a news conference.

In her own tweet, Green Party leader Elizabeth May says Trudeau is handling what she calls Trump's outbursts and bullying as well as anyone, and that all Canadian leaders need to support the prime minister.

Trump's confrontational rhetoric put him at odds with President Emmanuel Macron of France and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada-two of his closest allies.

Reacting to Trump's tweets, Trudeau's office said: "We are focused on everything we accomplished here at the summit".

"International cooperation can't depend on anger and small words".

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the statement said.

Trump made the comments in tweets from Air Force One as he headed to Singapore for his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Trump, who repeated that his tariffs are meant to protect US industry and workers from unfair worldwide competition, told reporters he had suggested to the other G7 leaders that all trade barriers, including tariffs and subsidies, be eliminated.

President Donald Trump's chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow on Sunday accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of undermining the U.S. and its allies with comments he made at the G7 summit.

EU's Michel Barnier rejects Theresa May's backstop proposal for Northern Ireland
"The UK is clear that the future customs arrangement needs to deliver on the commitments made in relation to Northern Ireland". That third "backstop option" was legally codified in a protocol contained in the Draft Withdrawal Treaty in late February.

"Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the USA and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things", Trump said in a tweet on Thursday.

He also announced over Twitter he'd instructed US officials to not endorse the statement, which serves as a declaration and recap of what was decided in the meeting.

"On NAFTA we either leave it the way it is as a three-some deal with Canada, the United States and Mexico and change it very substantially - we're talking about very big changes".

President Trump recaps his participation at a "tremendously successful" G7 summit, says trade, tariffs and immigration topped the agenda.

He reiterated that the recently imposed U.S. tariffs on metal imports from Canada and other nations are a response to what he believes is trade inequality. "We are like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing and that ends".

Trump tried to lighten the mood friday with the summit host. "We are open to dialogue, but that does not mean transforming a defined process, linked to the implementation of the Minsk accords", he said.

"We have done just that at this summit, registering our deep disappointment at the unjustified decision by the United States to apply tariffs to European Union steel and aluminium imports".

Earlier on Saturday, Trump told reporters it would be "very easy" to make the case for tariffs on auto imports using the rationale that they threaten national security.

In a statement, The Associated Press reported, a spokesman for Trudeau did not address Trump's tweeted insults.
